Reuters Links Up with AOL's Singingfish Video Search Engine

DULLES, Va. --(Business Wire)-- May 12, 2005 -- Taking advantage of the growing demand for online video, Reuters and AOL's Singingfish(TM) announced today that the industry-leading Singingfish video and audio search engine will have access to Reuters extensive video content. Hundreds of breaking and archived news clips produced by Reuters global news network will now be easily accessible via the multimedia search engine.

AOL's Singingfish video/audio search engine allows web users to browse millions of multimedia files in categories including news, finance, entertainment and sports. Available via Singingfish.com and AOLSearch.com, the search engine can be accessed from any Internet-connected PC or handheld device, and content viewed or downloaded in a range of different formats.

By indexing its breaking and archived video news clips on Singingfish, Reuters will drive additional traffic to www.reuters.com where it posts over 250 video clips every day, produced by its global network of news bureaus and studios across the globe. Viewers can access a range of coverage including world, business, fashion and entertainment news. They can choose from anchored shows, narrated reports, unedited natural sound footage and interviews with CEOs and senior business leaders.

In addition to managing Singingfish, which handles well over 200 million video and audio searches each month across its network and has experienced 100 percent growth over the past year, video and video search are a significant and important part of AOL's overall programming initiatives. AOL Video is one of the largest streamers on the Internet drawing on an industry leading on-demand archive of more than 10,000 assets from music and movies to television, sports and news videos.

Recent research from the Online Publishers Association (OPA) revealed that online video was increasingly popular but the biggest barrier to greater use was a general lack of awareness of where to watch it. Over half of those surveyed said they would be more likely to use video if it was easier to find.

Azhar Rafee, Executive Vice President, Reuters Consumer Service, said: "With broadband expected to be in more homes than cable and satellite within five years, the use of video over IP will continue to rocket. The challenge for news programmers is to make it easier for people to get straight to the video they want to see. Search has a key role to play here as it has become one of the most common ways that people access online content."

Karen Howe, Vice President and General Manager, AOL's Singingfish, said: "We're thrilled to work with Reuters to make their vast collection of video content easily available to consumers around the world through the popular Singingfish.com Web site, AOLSearch.com and our network of search properties. This is a wonderful addition to our video search index and will enrich the breadth and depth of the multimedia experience for web users."
